There's multiple ways to be really good. Some people just have it all."
JAY-Z is set to appear on David Letterman’s new Netflix talk show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction later this week, and today the streaming service released the episode’s trailer featuring a quick clip of a conversation between the two men. In the video, Jay named two rappers whose skills he thinks exemplify a great MC: Snoop Dogg and Eminem.
As he explained, Snoop’s voice and Eminem’s cadence are a huge part of the reason why both rappers are so revered:
You can have a great voice, and you can just almost say anything. I think Snoop Dogg has a great voice, like he can say ‘One-two-three and to the four,’ and it’s like ‘Oh my god.’ It just sounds good, right? Or you could be someone like Eminem and just have amazing cadence… It’s percussion inside the music. There’s multiple ways to be really good. Some people just have it all.
Snoop is known for his distinctive voice, and he’s done multiple voice acting gigs over the years on shows like Family Guy, The Boondocks, The Simpsons, and Arthur and the Great Adventure. Meanwhile, Em’s famous staccato raps still pop up on his new music, like 2017’s Revival.
Jay has previously collaborated with both rappers, linking up with Snoop for 2000’s “Get Your Mind Right Mami” and connected with Eminem on “Renegade” and “Syllables.” The Brooklyn rapper’s episode will be available to stream on Netflix this Friday, April 7.
